Contemporary utopias

CONTEMPORARY UTOPIAS

the other day                           at a party

I spoke with a girl                                 named Desirée       (I swear it!)

her name throbbed with echoes

romantic historical even Platonic

it turned out that she works programming a computer and       just as other people dream in technicolor

she                   dreams       nightly

in a computer language made up of

arrows that are

inflexible logical systematic orders

it is impossible for me                       she confessed

to develop a human relationship

I reduce everything to inflexible    signs   arrows

in bed

I have nightmares

in which I am part of an enormous computer until the hour comes

to get up and go to work
